چکیده

BACKGROUND The primary focus of many animal studies of electroacupuncture (EA) is on the overall effects of the treatment, without due consideration of the impact of how the needles are applied in animal models. Most experimental studies of EA use anaesthesia before needle insertion and electrical stimulation, or alternatively use restraining devices while the animals remain awake, either of which may confound the effects of the needling per se. In a recent study, Wang et al reported that rats remained in a polyethylene cylinder during the application of EA, without the need for either restraints or anaesthesia. Based on this observation, and given the potential difficulties that may be encountered during the application of EA, we set out to create a novel bottle-based device to help facilitate administration of EA without the use of anaesthesia or restraints.

Histopathological evaluation of the role of negative electrical charge on renal ischemia/reperfusion injuries on brain and heart tissues in rat

This study was performed to evaluate the role of electroacupuncture on kidney 1 (Ki1) acupoint to prevent the heart and brain injury following ischemia/reperfusion of both kidneys. 24 Sprague Dawley rats were randomly assigned into four equal groups. In the treatment 1 group, following anesthesia, acupuncture needles were inserted on Ki1 on the palm of both hindlimbs and connected to electroacu...

A novel sleep/wakeup power management in wireless sensor network: A Fuzzy TOPSIS approach

The wireless sensor network (WSN) is typically comprised many tiny nodes equipped with processors, sender/receiver antenna and limited battery in which it is impossible or not economic to recharge. Meanwhile, network lifespan is one of the most critical issues because of limited and not renewal used battery in WSN. Several mechanisms have been proposed to prolong network lifespan such as LEACH,...

Saccharomyces cerevisiae TFS9, a novel isolated yeast capable of high caffeine-tolerant and its application in biodecaffeination approach

There is a great call for using microbial bio-decaffeination approach to remove caffeinefrom caffeinated products and industrial wastes. We aimed in this study to screen strainsof yeasts which exhibit high caffeine tolerance and to investigate the bio-degradation ofcaffeine under growth conditions. Sixteen yeast strains were isolated from the cultivatedtea soils collected from sites of northern...

Electroacupuncture-Assisted Craniotomy on an Awake Patient.

Although acupuncture has existed for over 2000 years, its application as an anesthetic aid began in the 1950s in China. The first surgical procedure performed under acupuncture anesthesia was a tonsillectomy. Soon thereafter, major and minor surgical procedures took place with electroacupuncture alone providing the anesthesia. The procedures performed were diverse, ranging from cardiothoracic s...
